Normally speaking, as all the foreign friends know, if you want to get Work visa/Residence Permit, you have to leave China's Mainland by these following 5 steps:
1) Apply for "Working License= 外国人就业许可证";
2) Apply for "Work Invitation Letter",;
3) Take this leter to leave Chinese Mainland, and Apply for a "work visa" in abroad, including in Hongkong, Macao, etc, this Z visa will valid for one month;
4) Apply for "Work Permit= 外国人就业证", after you come back to China's Mainland；
5) Get "Residence Permit（居留许可）", it means extend your "one month work visa" to a "12-month Residence Permit";
